Just back from the Lauderdale boat show and it was great to see old friends and meet new ones, on my first day back we took the bay boat to the glades for some snook fishing and found plenty of big snook. Check out gregpoland on Instagram to see the daily catches. Yesterday I got out on a clients brand new 32 Contender and we jumped off a sailfish and caught a bucket full of yellowtail for supper. If you want to get out on the h20 give me a call and lets scheduall a trip. Greg
Snook fishing has been great in the backcountry, if you can get away for a 1/2 day or a few days I would love to get you out on the water, the weather is perfect and the fish are biting! Check out the photos below from a few diferent trips into the Everglades. www.gregpoland.com or on Istagram gregpoland
June is prime time for the tarpon migration so if you can break away from work give me a call and lets get you hooked up to a Silver King! Here are a few photos of what you are missing out on!
2019 spring migration of the silver kings has been really good for the guys on the bow of my new Contender bay boat. I just finished up filming a tv show with Mike & the crew from Reel Animals and look forward to watching mike battle some big fish on television. If you are looking to get out and catch a few I have some prime daes open in June, the backcountry has also been great for family fun fishing, so get your kids out on the boat for a 1/2 day of fishing in my new boat.
Its Tarpon Time in Islamorada, if you are looking to get out for a day give me a call and lets get you in the book.
Press the button above to see a video the guys from Sirius XM made here in Islamorada. I have this weather unit on my brand new 25 Contender and it is AMAZING!!!
I love fishing this time of year in the backcountry of the Islamorada area & Everglades National Park. If the wind is up you will have a great opportunity to cast a crustacean at a bonefish or permit without spooking it, if you find light winds & the water has warmed up you just might be able to to find the first tarpon of the season. Out back around the mangrove shorelines while looking for those silver kings to roll cast a plastic lure and work it slow you might just catch a snook or redfish. Its absolutely one of the best times of the year to fish the backcountry and flats in my opinion, but its all dependent on the weather conditions which can go from mild to wild so be sure to check the reports and be safe about things. If you head out into the Gulf of Mexico you will still find a few spanish mackeral along with a host of other species from cobia to kingfish and if you have a secret stash of gps coordinates you should stop on one and drop something down to the bottom to see what you might hook into. When I have a full charter and the wind will coorperate this time of year I love to get out to the gulf and see what I can find, always take a well full of live baits (pilchards, pinfish, & shrimp) with you and make sure you have a few live crabs incase you run into a school of permit. I always have 2 Hogy pro tail soft baits (photo below) rigged to my 15lb spinning rods for the ride out, they make it simple to slow down and cast to a fish on the surface or if running by a marker we can stop for a quick cast without spending time rigging a live bait. When you get to your gps number slow down long before you are on the numbers and slowly approach incase something is up on the surface, I see people race up to their fishing spot all the time and wonder what they are thinking, be sneaky about it & I bet you will have more scuess! Once anchored I like to drop a bag of chum over the side and if I have a well full of pilchards I always send out a few freebies to get the fish excited before putting one down on a hook. I look forward to seeing you out on the water & if you are looking to get out on a charter either on your boat or on my brand new 25 Contender give me a call and lets book a date. Capt. Greg |
